At exactly November 11th at 12:54pm, the last vote was casted for Commodore John Rodgers 2022 student government association election.

Days Before Election

As campaigns commenced, candidates spoke candidly to their classmates and teachers about how they would like to change our school community for the better. The core of campaign messages highlighted more fundraising, better transparency, greater collaboration with administration, and most importantly- putting the interests of the people first! The enthusiasm from the student body was unmatched as candidates shared their positions and asked constituents what they wanted in their school representative. The creative election posters displayed throughout school hallways was the cherry on top. Drawing in those last minute swing voters as the polls came to a close Friday afternoon.

Election Results

The 2022 SGA election results features 2 student representatives per grade, 5th-8th, who will represent our Student Government Association. Election inspectors closed the polls Friday afternoon with the last lunch of the day. Soon after, election results yielded unprecedented results with 266 voters (28.6% 5th graders, 25.2% 6th graders, 20.7% 7th graders, 25.6% 8th graders) entering their ballot- a record high number of votes ever casted at Commodore.The election was a close call for some, creating a feverish triumph particularly for our 5th and 8th graders. All candidates graciously accepted the outcome of the election. Our Commodore culture proved wholesome, as we saw an array of humbling acts as the victors beamed with bright smiles while also raising the spirits of the defeated; and the winner ups cheered amiably for their peers. If there's one thing this election has taught me, it is that the Commodore Family sticks together. Congratulations to the 2022 Student Government Association Representatives!

Next Steps

Our Commodore SGA representatives are thrilled to represent the student body! The association will hit the ground running with a full schedule for January. First up for our representatives is drafting a game plan to better serve their constituents. Stay tuned for updates!
